Abstract
The securing of the nests of bumblebees for study and experimentation by attracting and inducing the queens to nest in artificial domiciles is a great improvement over the chance locating of their nests. Mr. F. W. L. Sladen first experimented with this method in England in 1912. Experiments with a similar purpose hut using domiciles of a new design were undertaken in the vicinity of Urbana, Illinois, by the writer during the years 1915-1917 and 1919. Seventeen of a total of thirty-six domiciles or about forty-eight per cent, were selected by queen bumblebees for nesting quarters. These results compare favorably with those obtained in England by Sladen. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
