Charge Division Using Carbon Filaments for Obtaining Coordinate Information from Detection of Single Electrons

Abstract
Seven micron diameter Carbon filaments forming the anode of a multiwire proportional chamber have been used to detect single electrons. Charge division techniques applied to the 5 cm long wire resulted in a position resolution of σ/L <2% for a collected signal charge of 30 fC.
