Abstract
Between 1962-1972, 1586 patients were irradiated due to carcinoma colli uteri. The National Cancer Registry in Austria showed that 31% of the new cases were aged 60 yr and over. In the annual report of treatment results for carcinoma of the uterus, vagina and ovary, the statistics on German-speaking countries showed that 36.5% of cases of carcinoma colli uteri were inoperable. Of the 1586 patients, 757 (47.7%) survived 5 yr and longer. Permanent reactions, like recto-vaginal-fistula and vesico-vaginal-fistula, were seen in 3.2%. These results were obtained by intracavitary radiotherapy. Afterloading apparatus and high voltage percutaneous therapy were not available during the study period.
