Time Relationship of Spring Brood Codling Moth Emergence, and Subsequent Worm Entry1

Abstract
It has been assumed that peaks of moth abundance in spring should be followed within a few days by peaks of egg deposition. Records of moths captured at bait traps in an apple orchard were obtained during 1939, 1940 and 1941. These are compared with records of worm entry in apples on an unsprayed tree in the same orchard. The records indicate a lag in the peaks which amounted to 25 days in 1939, only 9 days in 1940 and 17 days in 1941. Figuring from the first peak of moth emergence, however, the max. lag becomes 29 days in 1939, 18 days in 1940 and 27 days in 1941.
