Experiments for Sensitivity Enhancement of a Heterodyne Detection System at Submm Wavelength

Abstract
Recently the heterodyning technique has been extended into the submm range using quasi optical coupling structures. The coupling losses of the typically 4λ long wire antenna were reduced by combining it with a corner reflector erected parallel to the wire axis [1, 2, 3]. With an optically pumped submm laser as local oscillator a conversion loss L O = 17.5 dB (SSB) has been achieved [4].
