Abstract
The Lyapunov direct method is applied to the quasigeostrophic equations to prove the nonlinear asymptotic stability, even in the kinetic energy norm, of the Veronis analytical solutions of the classical Stommel–Veronis dynamic models of barotropic ocean circulation.
