Abstract
The effects of relatively high doses of I131 (150 [mu]c/100 g body weight) were observed on the percentage deposition of I131 in the thyroid glands of rats, and on the pattern of histological localization as shown by autoradiograms. At 24 hours after dosage, there was no interference in the capability of the gland to concentrate iodine and to convert it to the organic form. However, there was a marked inhibition of the transfer of thyroglobulin from the cells to the colloid as shown by the autoradiograms. The possible use of this behavior as a method for study of the mechanism of hormone synthesis is illustrated. Keywords
