Abstract
At the foot of the Elbourz chain, in the vicinity of Teheran, is an irregular alluvial plain on which three phases of deposition can be observed. The Pliocene-Pleistocene formation, in the northern part of the plain is composed of poorly cemented conglomerates grading in the central area to a limonite formation. The lower Quaternary consists of alternating coarse and fine beds. The Quaternary of the highlands shows a zone of limey accumulation overlain by a clay and iron-rich zone from which the lime has been washed.
