Failure to Observe Alteration of Epinephrine Activity after Endotoxin

Abstract
Epinephrine responses were studied before and after 0.5 [mu]g and 50 [mu]g of Escherichia coli injected into isolated rabbit ears perfused with Tyrode solution. These responses were observed in ears removed with the rabbit under Nembutal (pentobarbital-Na) or ether anesthesia as well as after decapitation. Essentially no potentiation of epinephrine activity after the 0.5 [mu]g endotoxin dose was seen, contrary to reports of other workers. Epinephrine activity was essentially unaltered in any way after endotoxin in the isolated rabbit ear.
