Abstract
A novel modification of the directional coupler modulator is described that reduces the nonlinear distortion and improves the linear dynamic range. The calculated results indicate that the ratio of optical signal power to the spurious signal power of this device is 30-40 dB larger than that of a Mach-Zehnder interferometric modulator. Keywords
