Abstract
Benemid doubles or quadruples the penicillin plasma concns. and doubles the plasma concns. of p-amino-salicylic acid (PAS), by interfering with the renal tubular excretion of these agents. The other commonly employed antibiotics, aureomycin, chloramphenicol, terramycin and streptomycin are eliminated from the body according to a different pattern of renal elimination. In 31 patients, Benemid had no influence on the plasma concns. of these antibiotic agents. This is of importance, for streptomycin is frequently given with PAS for the treatment of tuberculosis. Keywords
