Abstract
When the interior of a white dwarf begins to freeze, the coexisting solid and liquid phases will have different compositions in general. Two models for the carbon-oxygen phase diagram are described. In the more realistic model, a pronounced eutetic is predicted and the solid phase is either pure carbon or pure oxygen. The model predicts that a white dwarf begins to freeze later in its evolution and then cools more slowlyKeywords
