Abstract
NN′-Ethylenebis(salicylideneiminato)metal(II) complexes (MIIsalen) where the metal ion is cobalt(II), nickel(II), or copper(II), and also the Schiff base ligand, react with phosphorus trichloride and arsenic trichloride to yield cyclic derivatives. In the Schiff-base complexes the essentially square planar stereochemistry of the metal ion produces tetrahedral [cobalt(II), copper(II)] or octahedral [nickel(II)] environments after reaction with phosphorus or arsenic trichloride. These systems have been characterised by magnetic measurements, and u.v. and i.r. spectroscopy. Keywords
