Abstract
An account is given of some cytological and histochemical features of the pineal body and neurohypophysis of the rhesus monkey. Included are observations on the presence and distribution of nucleo-proteins, lipids, glycogen, collagen, nerve fibers and alkaline phosphatase, explored by a variety of methods. In addition, there are observations in regard to autofluorescence and birefringence in these areas, and brief notes on several cyto-logic features of the adenohypophysis. The parenchymal cells of the pineal contain large, chromatin-rich, lobed nuclei with ribonucleoprotein, alkaline phosphatase and glycogen in the cytoplasm. Contrarily, the pituicytes contain lipid droplets, alkaline phosphatase, traces of ribonucleoprotein and no glycogen. Keywords
