Abstract
The microfaunal associations of Jurassic and Cretaceous formations of the Betic cordillera and the Balearic islands, Spain, are planktonic. Of themselves, they have no bathymetric significance, but they occur consistently in deposits containing no detrital material, characterized by limy-marly facies, which is proof that the deposits were laid down in a broad geosyncline. It is therefore possible to recognize Mesozoic geosynclinal formations, in spite of contrary opinions. Keywords
