A new marine species of haptophyte, Chrysocampanula spinifera, is described from the Bay of Chaleurs, Quebec, Canada. Some of the specific features of this organism, which include the presence of two unequal heterodynamic flagella, a short rigid haptonema, and long fine spines, are discussed along with the reasons for creating a new genus. A remarkably similar organism, collected one day later, showing a possible affinity to C. spinifera is also described.
