Abstract
A new method is described for the quantitative analysis of pregnandiol (5β-pregnane-3α,20α-diol) in urine. A marked increase in specificity is obtained by a combination of adsorption and paperchromatography. The sensitivity of the method allows of exact determinations of excretion of pregnandiol below 1 mg/d. By the new method it was possible to measure the excretion of pregnandiol in newborn infants, and the method is recommended for the exact determination of pregnandiol in urine of children, men and women in the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle. The method is suitable as a clinical routine analysis.
