Abstract
A set of procedures, including computer software, which derive weighting factors for reducing point weather data to an areal district basis, are described and demonstrated. Areal estimates obtained by applying such weighting factors can be used, for example, in the development or application of large-area crop weather yield models. The system incorporates a computerized grid mesh technique for determining the Thiessen weighting factors. The source data requirements are described as well as the computer software. The techniques are demonstrated numerically and graphically through the use of the SYMAP computer mapping program for June 1978 rainfall for crop reporting districts in the province of Saskatchewan.
