Abstract
The absorption spectra of single crystals of Gd3+:LaF3 and GdCl3·6H2O were examined at low temperatures and high resolution. Stark components belonging to the 6 G multiplet near 50 000 cm−1 were observed in both matrices. Theoretical treatment of the data confirmed the importance of including two‐body magnetic interactions in the analysis. Keywords
