Abstract
Calculations are made which indicate that the observed splitting of the Cl2 quadrupole resonance spectrum arises from isotope effects on the thermal motions of the Cl2 molecules. The type of motion considered is a torsional oscillation of the molecules about their centers of gravity. Keywords
