More than local anaesthesia for conservative dentistry

Abstract
Conservative dentistry may be a prolonged procedure and patients expect it to be as pain-free as possible. Nearly all such dentistry could be done in the dental chair with or without local anaesthesia, but since many patients and some dentists prefer more than just local pain relief, the use of general anaesthesia or ‘deep sedation’ has often been advocated. This has aroused considerable controversy.
