Abstract
The fact that the potato leafhopper, Empoasca fabae (Harris), cannot survive winters in the Midwest is developed from several angles. Data are presented which correlate the decline and eventual elimination of potato leafhopper populations with the decline of mean temperatures in the fall. Complete mortality is attained in early December in Wisconsin and Minnesota, early January in Tennessee, and mid-February in northern to mid-Mississippi and Louisiana. Winter survival is limited to portions of the Gulf Coast area, notably extreme southern Louisiana and northern Florida. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
