Kinetic Process of Commensurate-Incommensurate Transition in K2ZnCl4

Abstract
The time change of the dielectric constant at twenty-six different frequencies covering the dispersion region was traced during the C-to-INC and INC-to-C transitions which were triggered by a temperature jump. In both cases the static dielectric constant increased first, reached a maximum and then decreased. The relaxation frequency showed a monotonical increase during the C-to-INC transition and a monotonical decrease during the INC-to-C transition. The results suggest that the spacing between the discommensurations is gradually narrowed during the C-to-INC transition and widened during the INC-to-C transition.
