Abstract
This paper describes the development of a new framework of National and Scottish Vocational Qualifications in the health, care and education fields and their potential implications for promoting multidisciplinay and interprofessional methods of working and for the traditional vocational—professional divide. It is argued that the methodology on which the new qualifications are based is not without flaws, but equally is not as conservative, mechanistic and restrictive as it might first appear.
