Abstract
Small discussion-education groups moderated by a trained leader have been used in a variety of settings for the mutual assistance of individuals who share some stressful life situation. This paper reviews the literature on a broad range of such groups, and finds they have common characteristics, modes of function, and problems of leadership. The situation group is seen as being an important primary preventive approach for both mental and physical health problems. Keywords
