Abstract
This study was based on a sample of 250 physicians and 74 physical therapists practicing in Arkansas. A questionnaire with activity ratings and open-end questions was used to investigate the attitudes of these two groups toward the professional capacity of the physical therapist. Thirty percent of the physicians and 61 percent of the physical therapists responded to the questionnaire. Eight physical therapy activities were rated by respondents as needing improvements. Respondents listed a variety of suggestions for improvement of physical therapy and mentioned several areas of medical knowledge in which they believed most physical therapists were lacking.
