Abstract
This paper presents an approach to episodic structures, specifying two types of generative rules that define them. Episodes manifest an underlying form in terms of five structural imperatives. This form is realized through a single base rule. This underlying form is converted into various surface structures through transformational rules. The paper concludes by discussing several implications that are pertinent to a language‐action approach to interpersonal communication. Keywords
