Zero-bias edge-coupled InGaAs photodiodes in millimetre-wave radio-fibre systems

Abstract
An edge-coupled InGaAs photodiode has been used to produce a novel type of millimetre-wave radio transmitter, for which zero electrical power is required. This radio transmitter operates purely from a fibre input as part of a radio-fibre system, and is capable of generating an output power of −20dBm at a frequency of 30 GHz.
