Abstract
An overview of the two important separation-identification techniques, capillary GC/MS and capillary GC/FTIR, is presented. The two analytical techniques are compared in terms of instrumentation, data processing, and type of structural information that can be obtained. A variety of applications demonstrate the utility of the two techniques. Specific examples indicate the sensitivity and chromatographic requirements of the two coupled systems. A brief investigation of the effect of chemical derivatization on infrared as compared to mass spectral data is presented. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
