Abstract
Published references and new data are examined in light of the Van Deemter equation. The classical Van Deemter equation must be expanded in several aspects for application to fast liquid chromatography. Relationships between resolution, separation factor, time, and pressure drop across the column system are derived. The consequences of this derivation are discussed.Keywords
