Abstract
Deep brain stimulation is the surgical intervention of choice when Parkinson disease (PD) motor complications are inadequately managed with medications. Ideal candidates have fluctuating motor symptoms or medication-related adverse effects, few comorbidities, and no cognitive or behavioral disorders.1 This younger, healthier population reflects a selection bias observed in most deep brain stimulation studies.2,3 The typical patient with PD is older and has other medical conditions.
