Abstract
Studies with smallhead sneezeweed indicated that a sesquiterpene lactone, helenalin, is the only significant toxic constituent present. The oral LD50 of helenalin for 5 mammalian species [sheep, hamsters, rabbits, rats, mice] was between 85-150 mg/kg.
