Abstract
A new-structure traveling-wave z-cut Ti:LiNbO3 optical phase modulator with 50 Ω characteristic impedance and velocity matching without any penalty in driving voltage is designed and fabricated. The study analyzes the device structures and design parameters of the thickness of the electrodes and the buffer layers, and presents experimental results. The modulation response has been measured up to 40 GHz, and 26 GHz on a 3dB bandwidth caused by electrode losses, and the V π of this device was 17 V at the optical wavelength of 1.5 µm.Keywords
