Abstract
To the Editor: Johnson et al. (Dec. 11 issue)* say that "12 percent [1229] of the total study group were known to have resided in and to have attended college in Puerto Rico. If it is assumed that most, if not all, of this 12 percent are Puerto Ricans. . . ." This assumption is incorrect, since the authors also say that 392 of this subgroup were not U.S. citizens at birth, and all Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens at birth. Therefore, 392 of the 1229 (32 percent) were not Puerto Ricans, although they attended college in Puerto Rico.
