The Life History of Hepatozoon rarefaciens (Sambon and Seligmann, 1907) from Drymarchon corais (Colubridae), and Its Experimental Transfer to Constrictor constrictor (Boidae)

Abstract
The life history of a hemogregarine, Hepatozoon rarefaciens (Sambon and Seligmann, 1907), from the indigo snake, Drymarchon corais, is described for the 1st time. The vertebrate hosts were taken at Colima and at Tepic, Mexico. The sporogonic cycle may be completed in at least 3 species of mosquitoes: Culex tarsalis, Anopheles albimanus, and Aedes sierrensis. The parasite may be transmitted to the boa, Constrictor constrictor, by feeding it C. tarsalis carrying mature sporocysts in the hemocoel.
