Abstract
The first paper on amphipods from Norway in which there is positive evidence of records of Hyale pontica is that of BOECK (1873–1876). In this he redescribed the genus Hyale and the species H. nilssoni RATHKE, but as pointed out by Sars (1895) Boeck did not distinguish between H. nilssoni and H. lubbockiana. The latter is synonymous with H. pontica. According to Boeck (1873–1876) H. nilssoni has been recorded from Bohuslän in Sweden along the coast to Altafjorden in northern Norway. He mentioned specifically the localities Kristiansand, Mandai, Stavanger, Haugesund, Bergen and Foldenfjorden. Two specimens, a male and a female, collected by Boeck at Karmö (north of Stavanger) and at Farsund (west of Mandai), were found by Sars (1895) in the Zoological Museum, University of Oslo. He identified both as H. pontica, not H. nilssoni. Keywords
