Abstract
The {100} surface of a gold crytal was sputtered by bombardment with 20 keV Ar+ ions. The time‐of‐flight spectrum d2S/dtdO of the ejected Au stoms was measured for several orientations. A characteristic peak in the spectrum was identified in the ejection direction and this was compared with theoretical spectra based on two models with a planar surface binding potential: Model (a) gave a better fit to the observed spectra. Keywords
