Abstract
Action potentials from the muscles in the forearm were used as an index of muscle activity during the attempted solution by children of arithmetic problems of graded difficulty. It was found that the children used showed significantly greater activity during the attempted soln. of the problems than during the preceding rest periods. The amt. of action potentials was greater for the dull group than for the bright group of children. For both groups, muscle action potentials increased as the difficulty of the problems increased.
