Abstract
Observations upon the responses of the chromatophore system of Palaemonetes clearly demonstrate the presence of 2 hormones functioning in color-change. Beside the red and yellow pigment contracting hormone discovered by Perkins (1928), a 2nd hormone has been found which contracts the white pigment and is secreted in part in the eyestalk and in part in some other region of the body. Evidence indicates that the expansion of all the chromatophores is not dependent upon a hormone but is of local origin.
