Abstract
Phytiatry is the art of utilizing biological and physical knowledge to solve practical problems in plant disease. A professional society is needed to set and enforce standards of competence and ethics in the private practice of this profession. The practitioner requires a formal education that carefully balances a broad theoretical background in the biological and physical sciences, a thorough understanding of the etiology, epiphytology, and control of plant disease, and an intensive training in the skills of disease diagnosis. Keywords
