Abstract
While the analysis of the stationary solutions of nonlinear periodic media suggests the existence of gap-soliton-induced bistability, numerical simulations show that some of the states involved are unstable. To investigate the instability, a linear stability analysis is presented showing the stable and unstable regions as a function of both the intensity of the incoming radiation and the frequency. Keywords
