Abstract
Incorporation of [3H]-5 HTP [5-hydroxytryptamine] is studied in ultimobranchial [UB] cells and thyroid cells of the mouse fetus from the 13th day to the 18th day of gestation. The APUD characteristics [the ability to take up a biogenic amine, decarboxylate it, and store the corresponding amine] of these cells are first observed on the 14th day when the UB bodies are included in the thyroid anlage. The Ag granules are then localized on the parafollicular cell cords from which C [parafollicular] cells of the adult thyroid arise.
