Abstract
In the case of many species of ants the queens of the colony rear to maturity a first brood of minim workers which assume all nest duties. The queen henceforth gives herself up exclusively to laying eggs. She feeds from the tongues of her offspring and becomes indifferent to her young. She is practically a parasite, “a mere egg-laying machine.”Keywords
