Abstract
Glyphosate [N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine] combined with normal tillage operations afforded effective control of Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense (L.) Scop.) during the summer fallow period. Thistle control was greatest when glyphosate was applied to plants at the late-bud and flower stages of growth. Competitive effect of Canada thistle in the untreated check reduced barley yields as much as 89%.
