Abstract
A Deaf social club in Philadelphia provides insight into the culture of urban Deaf Americans. In composition, connection with national Deaf organizations, openness to the larger community, provision for free and relaxed communication, a spirit more cohesive than competitive, and an informal mentoring structure to introduce new members to the culture, it helps to explain what members themselves call “The Deaf way.”Keywords
