Abstract
Antimalarial drug artemisinin and haemin react in vitro, to give a δ-meso hydroxy porphyrin isolated as a stable dimethyl esterified zinc complex and characterised as (20-hydroxyprotoporphyrinato dimethyl ester)zinc(II) by NOESY, visible absorption and ESI-MS; the structure sheds light on the mechanism of action of endoperoxide antimalarials.Keywords
