Abstract
Evidence has been presented in previous papers that a relationship exists between the gastric potential and secretion. Several groups of workers have shown that thiocyanate inhibits gastric secretion. In this study, a portion of the stomach was placed in a lucite chamber. Regularly repeated subcut. injns. of histamine were given and, after the rate of secretion had reached a relatively constant level, a solution of sodium thiocyanate was injected intravenously. Large doses of thiocyanate resulted in complete inhibition of the secretion of HC1 and a return (increase) of the potential to its resting value. Smaller doses resulted in an inhibition of secretion before a change in potential was evident. Thiocyanate in comparable amts. had no effect on the potential of the non-secreting stomach. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
