Abstract
From the well-known Hertz theory of contact stresses, where contact is over a finite area, the more elementary two-dimensional case of contact between two cylinders with parallel generators may be obtained as a limiting case by allowing the contact area to become infinitely long in one direction. However, it is easier to obtain it directly; this is done in the paper. Keywords
