Abstract
Recent advances in quantitative methods of analysis have overshadowed the problems of classifying and analyzing qualitative data. The latter is commonly done by an appeal to uncontrolled human judgment. While it can be improved by careful selection of well qualified judges, the results are often unreliable as a repetition of the judging clearly demonstrates. It is possible to improve the results by following a procedure which helps judges make their decisions in a comparable manner.
