Abstract
The specific interaction of transformable Neisseria gonorrhoeae with DNA depends on the recognition of specific 10-residue target sequences. The relative affinity for DNA between 3 and 17 kb in size appears to be linearly related to the frequency of targets on the segment and is unaffected by absolute size. The average frequency of targets in chromosomal DNA of N. gonorrhoeae appears to be approximately one per 1,000 bp.Keywords
